What is the Community Seat Program?
Our Community Seat Program is a mutual-aid initiative that allows us to offer tickets to gaming events at no cost to players who need a break on the ticket price. We believe that inclusivity means doing everything we can to make sure anyone, regardless of circumstance, has an opportunity to come play and have some fun!
Recipients are randomly chosen from the pool of submissions and informed via email if their name is drawn. We offer at least one community seat at all of our games.

Who Qualifies for this program?
A good question! Times are hard out here, and there are a plethora of reasons one might need the help action on a ticket price—unemployment, underemployment, unpredictable employment, fixed income, surprise bills, disability…the list goes on.
Just because you don’t have the scratch doesn’t mean you don’t deserve a break. You know better than anyone if you qualify. If you’re making the decision between purchasing a necessity or doing something nice for yourself, just buy that thing you need and throw your name in the community seat hat!
Do you require proof of need?
Absolutely not. We ask attendees to self-identify if they qualify for a community seat based on our guidelines, and that’s all the proof we need. We’re not in the business of judging who is more or less deserving. If you put your name in, your name goes in the hat! Everyone has an equal chance.
We likewise trust that if you can afford the cost of a ticket to one of our events, you’ll purchase one and let us use the community seat fund to help out our neighbors who need a break (any maybe even contribute to the fund yourself!) Good? Good.
What happens if I’m selected?
We’ll send you an email informing you that you’ve been selected. If you can still attend the event, just confirm by replying to our email and you’re in!
When are names drawn?
We will draw names the week of the event and inform those selected. Occasionally, we may have cancellations or open seats the day before an event, in which case we may add more community seats and have another drawing! If your name is selected the day before an event, please confirm with us ASAP when you receive your email so we can offer the seat to someone else if you can’t attend!
If I am selected for a community seat ticket, will other attendees know I received one?
Nope! That’s between you and us. Your experience will be no different than any other player’s, and it will not be shared with other players that you are a community seat recipient (unless you tell folks yourself!)
How many tickets are offered per event?
We offer at least one community seat ticket at our game events. If we have open seats or cancellations the day before an event, we may add additional community seats.
Are community seat tickets available at all events?
Gaming events will ALWAYS have one or more community seats. For workshops and events, we’ll offer community seats whenever possible, but it depends on the nature of the workshop/event! We’ll make it clear on the site if a special event or workshop will have community seat tickets available.
Where do the funds for this program come from?
We fund this program with money raised during our fundraising events, and money contributed directly by community members. This is a community effort! We do not currently receive any grants or organizational funding. We’re just passin’ the hat. Know of any opportunities we should check out to support the program? Share them with us!
Why is there a fund? Why don’t you just offer free tickets?
Because our GMs deserve to be paid for the hard work they do! The community fund is used to pay our GMs for their time, regardless of if their players are community seat ticket recipients or not. They’re the whole reason we have a business, and our first goal is to compensate them fairly for their labor! Having a fund for this program allows us to reliably offer no-cost tickets while still paying our event staff fairly.
How can I contribute to the fund?
Thank you for your interest in supporting the program! All tickets have an option to add a dollar to the community fund. If you select this option, your additional contribution over the cost of your ticket goes directly to support this effort.

Is my donation tax deductible?
Crystal Sword Games is not a non-profit organization and as such does not have any recognized exempt tax status. As such, we cannot offer receipts or vouchers for contributions to this program for tax purposes. This is just a nice thing we try to do, and we hope you’ll support our efforts just the same!
